김 소연의 작업이 들어 내고 있는 곳은 현실 뒤편에 잠재된 채 언제라도 불청객처럼 일상에 끼어들어 뒤흔들 수 있는 미지의 세계이다.
그것은 밝고 정당한 것들만이 존재하는 명증한 세계가 아니라 고통을 주는 요인들, 불안과 의심, 공포와 히스테리가 존재하는 세계이다.
긍정과 명확함으로 가장된 인위적인 빛의 세계가 아니라, 자연 그대로의 실존이 가질 수 밖에 없는 그늘이 드리워진 세계인 것이다.
김 소연의 작업의 힘은 그러한 불안과 어두움 조차도 절대적 암흑이 아니라 빛과 어두움이 공존하는 더없이 흔들리는 상태로 드러난다는 것이 있다.
그의 작품에서 고전적인 공포영화나 범죄영화의 장면처럼 심리적이면서 어딘가 위태로운 긴장감이 느껴지는 것은 이런 흔들림에서 비롯된다.
이러한 측면이 어떠한 형태의 서정적 아름다움으로 다가올 수 있는 것은 그것이 거대하고 보편적인 진리에 대한 정답을 제시하는 것이 아니라,
아무리 해도 여전히 모른 채 서있을 수 밖에 없는 인간 존재의 나약함과 불안정함을 이야기하고 있기 때문일 것 이다.
무언가 존재한다는 믿음, 그러나 그것의 실체에 대해 여전히 아무것도 모르고 있다는 조건에 대해 그는 의심과 불안의 언어로써 이야기하고 있는 것이다.

Kim, Soyeon's work reveals a world hidden behind a reality intervening and interrupting our daily lives like an uninvited guest.
It is not a world where everything is clear and approved, but a world of pains, doubts, uncertainty, fear and hysteria. Not a world of light, made up of optimism and clearness, but a shadowed world as it is in a nature. The strength of Kim Soyeon's work lies in the fact that a fear does not appear as an ultimate darkness, but oscillates where the darkness and light co-exist. And this is the reason why as it is in classical horror or crime films a psychological tension is experienced from her work.
Such conditions come to us as a lyrical beauty, and this is because her work does not provide a huge answer about know truths, but tells a story of fragile and unstable state of a human existence.
The belief of a certain existence, but the fact that the subject is still unknown, she tells a story about such condition in a language of doubts anf uncertainty.
